We are working on preparing everything for our upcoming exhibition of Tom Dixon’s Industry Collection and we found a few things that we did not know about Tom Dixon – do you?
- Did you know that Tom Dixon was born in Tunisia in 1959, and was brought to England as a toddler where he grew up in London? After dropping out of art school in 1980, he played bass guitar in the band Funkapolitan and organized warehouse parties. While recovering from a motorcycle accident in 1983 he taught himself welding when trying to repair his motorbike, and became a design-maker.
- Did you know that Tom Dixon’s approach to design matched the post-punk mood of the early 1980s, and his name rose to prominence as “the talented untrained designer with a line in welded salvage furniture”? He is now the Creative Director of Tom Dixon and Artek.
- Did you know that Tom Dixon exhibits at major design venues and exhibitions including the Milan Fair and London Design Festival? The brand launches new collections annually at the Milan international furniture fair and the products are sold across 52 countries.
- Did you know that Normann Copenhagen has been selling his products for years, and that his products from the Road Show tour will be exhibited in the shop from August 4 to September 10?
Now you know.
