A Normann Nutcracker!

nutcracker

Magasin, a Danish department store branch asked us to make our version of the Nutcracker soldier as part of a charity project helping the Danish red cross. Obviously we had to use Familia Bone China. It was suppose to be on display during Christmas but unfortunately it cracked!!!

Playtime in CPH.

Olufur Elliasson is the Man behind the great idea: The collectively project. During the past week everybody in Copenhagen has had the opportunity to play with more than 36.000 white Lego blocks. The artist wants us to take part in the city we live in and to interact and share ideas with each other. I joined too - Rikke Hagen

It is time for tea and a cookie!

With a touch of “playfulness” and serendipity, Tina Tsang is working with the traditional ritual of afternoon tea-time. It is very far from my own way of expression. But it made me smile. Spotted by Rikke Hagen

Leftovers!!!

Spotted on Østerbrogade at Galleri Rebecca Kormind, a few blocks from Normann Copenhagen.Take a look at the holes in the material, they are actually left over sheet metal coming from bottle caps factory… turned into sculptural illusions or kind of floating disintegrated bodies. The work of Julie Tremblay, an artist from Quebec based in Copenhagen.

What inspires you?

Inspiration is an odd size…but always fun to learn about. Visit the Clay and Glass students (from The Danish Design School) flickr account and see what inspires them right now. Here is a image from Betina Huber.

Read my lips…

There is nothing like a great Art or Design book. We just got a bunch of new ones from teNeues and Phaidon in our Flagship Store. The man hiding behind Jack Nicholson is our Retail Director Peter Elmegaard.

Say hello to the design future

UPDATE: See the Students “Work in progress” pictures on Flickr

Take a close look at this group. Today they may look like an ordinary couple of beautiful young girls…and a boy. But within a few years we are confident that you will hear a lot more about several of them. Why? Because they are Ceramic and Glass students from the Danish design school. The same school that has produced talents like Rikke Hagen and Claydies. We will be following their work during the next 6 months - so stay tuned.

Great design never die

Great design never die - this example of a classic hand build Aston Martin should turn head not only on car fanatics, but by all who loves quality, beautiful lines and craftmanship. The trained eye will see that the Aston did not travel alone. Behind it is another icon of all times.. The E-type by Jaguar. Continue reading ‘Great design never die’

A retail Christmas nightmare!

If you have ever tried to wrap gifts in a retail store during the Christmas season, then you know that even your dreams can be invaded by Scotch tape…this presentation put the product in a different light and almost made it look like stars. Found at this year’s Tendence Fair in Frankfurt, Germany. Today we have less than 6 months to Christmas…

Trees made out of Wood!

Great things come out of our fellow Scandinavian countries these days - especially from our Finnish friends. This design got tons of focus on the Tendence talent zone 2008 in Frankfurt. Do check out their homepage http://www.lovi.fi/
