Design Lovers Needed For Testing

Normann Copenhagen is soon launching a new online platform and we are proud to say that it already looks awesome. However, before we do so we would like to invite you, design lovers, to help us make sure that everything is working the way it’s suppose to.

Therefore we would like you to help us test the platform before we launch it.

We would like you to concentrate on those areas where we can make the most positive impact for you – our future user of the platform.
To sign up for testing, please write to us at blog@normann-copenhagen.com

Bonus: You will be one of the first to see our new platform.

We are grateful to everyone who takes the time to share their opinions with us.

Designing a Photo Boutique

By the surroundings of Falkoner Alle in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen, you find a new photo shop nearby the hotel Radisson-Falkonersalen.

The new shop has a simple and modern design combined with black and white colours with some red spottings. Customers at Modul foto shop are able to get inspiration from the very begining they look through the window by walking on the street. To open the door and enjoy the photography world comes along.
Inspirated by Britt Bonnesen, brand manager of Normann Copenhagen and the architech Rolf M. Sørensen from Hoff & Jørgensen.

Products as the Hang lamp and the Tablo table create a fantastic visual combination to the eyes, the customer might get inspiration for new pictures or just enjoy the sensation of being at an urban photo shop in the center of Copenhagen as being at an Apple store in the center of Manhattan.

Take a seat, Sumo!

In the recent years we have started to make smaller furniture pieces. We love the pieces that are multifunctional where the user decides for themselves how to use the object. We are proud to launch Sumo pouf designed by the young talented designer Simon Legald.

The inspiration behind Sumo originates from the classic Danish furniture industry, in which special attention is paid to the detail and craftmanship in creating the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality.

Designer Simon Legald created a pouf in a class of its own. Sumo’s simple expression makes it easy to spot the detail and complexity of the upholstery and stitching; and the materials – wood, textiles and buttons – have been playfully combined. The visual expression is robust and friendly.

Sumo is a multifunctional piece of furniture and can be used as an extension to the sofa, a feature in the bedroom or a stool in the entrance hall. It comes in five classic colors: black, grey, beige, purple and turquoise.

Hang – a legal lamp!

When designing an office space you have to consider the  surroundings and the use.
And that is exactly what the Italian design studio, ANK in Venice, did. For an Italian law firm they created a modern and hip, yet serious space.

For lighting they used our Hang lamp designed by Rikke Hagen. The soft retro inspiration and the classic design make every room special. The lamp is a good example of functionallity and simplicity.

Cute and Cheeky – That’s Our New Chair

This is Bunny –  our new armchair!

With its soft, voluminous forms, this is a chair you can snuggle into as well as appreciate for its edgy, humorous contribution to any room. Bunny is a fresh interpretation of the classic ear chair. The chair’s cheeky and playful design is further emphasised by the tightly-strapped strings wrapped around the soft, upholstered body.

Soft Edges.

Tight Strings.

Bunny comes in three colors grey, pink and purple.

Straight Back – soft shapes.

Bunny is created by the designer duo Iskos-Berlin aka Boris Berlin and Aleksej Iskos.

The designers explain : “We have always felt that the ear chair has somewhat been forgotten as a style of furniture. Most people associate it with grandpa sitting with his newspaper or with granny and her knitting. It was therefore exciting to reinterpret the chair in a fun way, with recollections of the cute cuddly toys we had as children and of the soft Bunny – now also for adults!”

A Award-Winning Rainbow

We are happy to announce that our colourful and decorative Rainbow Trivet, designed by the German design trio Ding3000, has been awarded the prestigious 2011 GOOD DESIGN Award.

From the designers point of view:

“Design has a magical ability to make products desirable as opposed to merely functional. When we developed Rainbow Trivet it was a question of finding the optimal folding mechanism, making the finished trivet both aesthetically attractive and practical to use. Rainbow Trivet has a playful expression and looking at the colours puts you in a good mood.”

The award is hosted by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture & Design and Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd and is awarded for quality designs of the highest form, function and aesthetic appearance. GOOD DESIGN Award was established in Chicago in 1950 by Edgar J. Kaufmann Jr. in collboration with design pioneers such as Eero Saarinen, Charles & Ray Eames and Florence Knoll.

We love great design

Normann Copenhagen is a way of living - a mindset. We like to think of it as putting on a pair of glasses and seeing the world in a different way. We love to challenge the conventional design rules.

On this blog we write about our design, the designers, and interesting things we spot around our hometown - Copenhagen.

Enjoy
