We Believe In…..

When we choose new colours for our products or when we decide what we want to purchase for our Flagship Store ( furniture, design and fashion) we make storyboards. It is a great and simple tool for us. We want to share some of our key words and how Spring 2012 looks like in the Normann Copenhagen world.

Overall you will find lots of colour – a mix of both strong and more delicate colours.

  • Metal colours such as gold, silver and copper.
  • Instead of patterns and prints, textiles will be one colour and with structure.

Normann Food – February

In the North we like our crisp bread in the morning and for this month’s Normann Food we would like to inspire you to make your own crisp bread.

You will need :

1 dl. sunflower seeds
1 dl. pumpkin seeds
1 dl. flax seeds
1 dl. sesame seeds
1 dl. oatmeal
2 tea spoons of salt
1 tea spoon of backing powder
1 dl. olive oil
2 dl. water
3 dl. wheat flour

Here is how it is done :

  • Mix all the ingredients and knead it until it is a sticky mass.
  • Seperate the dough into three equally sized portions.
  • Roll each portion flat onto a piece of greaseproof paper.
  • Cut the dough into sizes appropriate to crisp bread.
  • Place the breads in the oven and bake them in 15 minutes at 200º celcius.

When they are done, let them cool off for bit before eating.

We like our crisp bread with cheese and homemade marmelade accompanied by a soft-boiled egg and a nice cup of tea.

Two Products in One

The latest Normann Copenhagen products is the Knife Pot. Keep your kitchen utensils in one place. That is the essence of Knife Pot, a space-saving and simple knife block featuring an inbuilt turntable with space for knives, whisks and wooden spoons.

Form follows function
Adrian and Jeremy explain: “We focused on function in the design of Knife Pot. Its expression is devoid of any unnecessary frills. Various expressions are instead created through the colours and shapes of the kitchen utensils.”

The designer-duo DesignWright has created a simple and functional design, the expression of which mirrors the function and ensures that you have your favourite kitchen utensils close at hand.

Knife Pot is easy to dismantle and clean and comes in five soft tones of black, white, grey, blue and nude.

Knife Pot is available in our online shop, click here  to see more and buy.

Designing a Photo Boutique

By the surroundings of Falkoner Alle in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen, you find a new photo shop nearby the hotel Radisson-Falkonersalen.

The new shop has a simple and modern design combined with black and white colours with some red spottings. Customers at Modul foto shop are able to get inspiration from the very begining they look through the window by walking on the street. To open the door and enjoy the photography world comes along.
Inspirated by Britt Bonnesen, brand manager of Normann Copenhagen and the architech Rolf M. Sørensen from Hoff & Jørgensen.

Products as the Hang lamp and the Tablo table create a fantastic visual combination to the eyes, the customer might get inspiration for new pictures or just enjoy the sensation of being at an urban photo shop in the center of Copenhagen as being at an Apple store in the center of Manhattan.

Take a seat, Sumo!

In the recent years we have started to make smaller furniture pieces. We love the pieces that are multifunctional where the user decides for themselves how to use the object. We are proud to launch Sumo pouf designed by the young talented designer Simon Legald.

The inspiration behind Sumo originates from the classic Danish furniture industry, in which special attention is paid to the detail and craftmanship in creating the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality.

Designer Simon Legald created a pouf in a class of its own. Sumo’s simple expression makes it easy to spot the detail and complexity of the upholstery and stitching; and the materials – wood, textiles and buttons – have been playfully combined. The visual expression is robust and friendly.

Sumo is a multifunctional piece of furniture and can be used as an extension to the sofa, a feature in the bedroom or a stool in the entrance hall. It comes in five classic colors: black, grey, beige, purple and turquoise.

Hang – a legal lamp!

When designing an office space you have to consider the  surroundings and the use.
And that is exactly what the Italian design studio, ANK in Venice, did. For an Italian law firm they created a modern and hip, yet serious space.

For lighting they used our Hang lamp designed by Rikke Hagen. The soft retro inspiration and the classic design make every room special. The lamp is a good example of functionallity and simplicity.

We love great design

Normann Copenhagen is a way of living - a mindset. We like to think of it as putting on a pair of glasses and seeing the world in a different way. We love to challenge the conventional design rules.

On this blog we write about our design, the designers, and interesting things we spot around our hometown - Copenhagen.

Enjoy
