Help us redesign the Spotted by Normann Copenhagen blog

The layout you are looking at right now has been around for a couple of years. It has been serving us well – being the home for more than 800 blogposts and soon reader numer 500.000 will enter the blog. Besides the blog we have been busy building a online shop, a video site, a Flickr archive, a twitter profile and a Facebook fan page.

Now the time has come where we have outgrown our blog… it’s time for something new!

And this is where we thought of you – our dear blog reader. We need your help, your input and your ideas. Where do we turn to if we want to see the best of the best bloggers? Who has the coolest functions, a outstanding archive… that actually works. Or do you prefer the blog just the way it is today? – share your thoughts and comments (click the “Leave a Comment” link) and we promise you we will keep you involved throughout the redesign process.

p.s. this is NOT a design pitch so if you are a digital agency please proceed to the next blog post.

Our taste of cars: Cute N´Compact in Copenhagen

Let’s face it. Cars don’t really belong in big cities any longer. Not much fun about a car that does 0-60 mph in 4.0 sec. when you are stuck in traffic most of the time! Either sell the car and buy a bike or get a car that is cute, fun and easy to park. Today we spotted this baby in the backyard of the Normann Copenhagen HQ.

iPad at work – works

We admit it! – we love Apple products. We use iMac in our Flagship store as well as on every single design fair we attend. The iPhone is of course right at hand – all the time, and now we also use the new iPads.

Daniel studying our new bike – you can almost feel it!

We have been using the iPad for two weeks now, and we can already conclude that its awesome for work. Our Sales Managers use it “in the field” when talking to our costumers. Unlike on a laptop you don´t  feel hidden behind a screen, and since there are no boot time its much easier to go from “I’ll show it to you” to “here you can see it in use”.

What´s on display?

The Normann Copenhagen iPads are loaded with:

  • Over 600 product pictures from our homepage
  • 27 video clips from our new video site
  • The Book – our new product book
  • Theme music from our homepage
  • Order sheet

Thumbs up – and down

+ Pictures and video looks awesome
+ Easy to use – no manual needed
+ Easy to share – lay it on a table and everybody can see
+ Instant on – turn it on and you are working the same second

- The screen. Fingers make the glass screen “foggy” after a few minutes of work
- File sharing of e.g. Excel files are not easy
- Doesn’t like our homepage because its Adobe Flash

Happy birthday to NormannCPH

Exactly one year ago on the 27th of February we created our NormanCPH profile on Twitter. To be honest we had no idea of how we were going to use it. In the beginning it was quie strange to tweet… felt pretty much like talking to a wall. Today we are proud to have more than 950 followers from around the world.

Follow us today and you might win a Plane
If you are on Twitter, please follow us on NormannCPH. We tweet about our products, things in Copenhagen and design we like – and since its our birthday we will draw a winner of a Ole Søndergaard Plane (see above) among those who follow us during this weekend.

5 reasons why we need an iPad

You may have heard about the latest product from Apple, the iPad. Here at the Normann Copenhagen HQ we are quite excited about the new invention. Here is why:

1. With its large screen, the iPad is perfect for showing our product pictures. The minimalistic design ensures that all focus will be on the product, not the computer/keyboard/mouse.

2. It’s mobile… not like an iPhone, but still much better than bringing a laptop around town when our Sales Managers are on customer visits.

3. It’s stylish. We love beautiful design and for us the iPad is an awesome piece of industrial design.

4. We already know it. We are addicted to the iPhone Apps, so being able to move the apps over to the new iPad is just perfect for us. Right now we use: TweetDeck, Skype, iTranslate, Google, Dropbox, Convert, ScanLife, NikeID, RedLaser and WordPress to mention a few.

5. Don’t tell it, show it. We think video is perfect when we want a customer to see how a lump of clay is transformed into a unique table or when we want to show how a Rocking glass rocks but can’t bring every single product with us.

6. We wrote 5 reasons in the headline but we will probably also be using the iPad for music, watching films, playing games, writing mails etc.

p.s. Mr. Jobs, if you are listening in on this channel, please send one of the first iPads our way… please.

Testpilots wanted!

In Normann Copenhagen we have been quite busy lately. Not only have we launched 12 new products but we have also made it 550% easeir getting an overview of all the products at the normann-copenhagen homepage.*

(*Based on fullscreen mode on iMac 27″)

We don´t expect that the 550% improvements will garantee us the next Creative cirle award (see blogpost). But we will continue moving ahead in the next year as well:

Right now we are working on our Online store. We will start testing soon, if you would like to be a design-test-pilot for our Online Store please contact us: blog@normann-copenhagen.com and tell us a bit about yourself.

Stay tuned here on the blog or on Twitter and you will be the first to know when the store is online.

If you are in Tokyo these days drop by the Royal Danish embassy. The front of the building has been covered with pictures of the top of the pop, when it comes to Danish designers including our very own Ole Jensen. (Washing-up bowl, Dustpan, Familia, Warm, Collect, Memory chair)

Grab your mobile, take a picture of the 2D code and you are on the way to tons of bonus info… nice modern twist by the oldest kingdom in the world.

Apple: You got us at hello!

apple-magic-mouse

Once again the brilliant designers at Apple in California has created the next must-have gizmo. Besides a few nice updates to the iMac lineup, Apple is also introducing a new mouse called Magic Mouse. From a design point of view it is truly magical that Jonathan Ive & Co has managed to integrate so many new features into such a minimalist design.

… so dear Santa. Besides the WHY-yacht we would also like some of that magical Apple mouse design.

“A” spotted in Copenhagen

Update: See the video footage from inside A on Gizmode. We spotted the Danish Arne Jacobsen Vola shower-head – after fast forward to 1:30.

Yesterday we spotted the super-yacht “A” designed by Philip Starck just across of the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen. No doubt the radical design pushes in new directions setting a different standard for super yachts. But to be honest, we are not sure we like it. What do you think? – Would you order this baby, if you had a MillionBillionTrillion dollars? More pictures below.

We love great design

Normann Copenhagen is a way of living - a mindset. We like to think of it as putting on a pair of glasses and seeing the world in a different way. We love to challenge the conventional design rules.

On this blog we write about our design, the designers, and interesting things we spot around our hometown - Copenhagen.

Enjoy
