Kindle = 1 step forward – 2 steps back

kindle

We love the idea of the E-ink book reader, Kindle. The concept of downloading all your reading directly from Amazon is just brilliant, and a perfect match for a (everything for sale) bookstore. Today Amazon launched the next version Kindle DX – faster, bigger, stronger, brighter… you know the tech. song. However the design still reminds us of something a doctor would use in a C-grade sci-fi movie. Yes it’s white and simple… but it is also  - oh – so - boring to look at.

Amazon  has managed to squeeze all the books in the world (almost) into one device. But they have also managed to forget that books is also about the joy of holding something beautiful, soft, almost warm and often covered with interesting design and print.

Our suggestion to Amazon is quite simple. Give your white plastic screen to designers, artists and skilled bookbinders all over the world and see what happens. One thing is for sure. You won’t get a plane white result.

WE LOVE YOU

2000001

Today is a special day at the online department at Normann Copenhagen. Not long ago we started our blog Spotted by Normann Copenhagen as an internal project to keep each other up to date. After a while we realized that the blog was a fun way to show and tell what was on our mind, and  we started to write in english. As of today we have written over 580 blog posts mostly about our own products, our designers and fun/interesting/strange things that we have spotted. And today we welcome our visitor number 200.000 to our blog.

Whats next?
First of all we are going to launch our own Normann Copenhagen Flagship online store. You will not find our normal product range (find a online shop), instead you will find selected and limited products from our flagship store in Copenhagen.

Video
We love Youtube and are having a blast with our new super slow-motion camera, so expect to see a lot more like the Perfect scarf knot, Cognac glass in Slow-mo, the making of videos and your should (not)have been there clips.

Thank you for dropping by

Less is… much more

ipod-shuffle

Apple just launched their new iPod Shuffle and it´s beautiful… that is if you can find it! From a design point of view we are true fans of this company that keeps setting new standards for tech design.
P.s. “Santa – could you please come early this year, thanks”

Design Hype

A Tech Company will reveal a new hardware product today!!! Nothing interesting about that. But replace “A Tech Company” with the brand name Apple, and now you got everybody’s attention. Designlovers will gather around the live-blogging sites that will keep us up to date – minute by minute during Steve Jobs presentation. It’s amazing that Apple has succeeded in turning a product presentation into something that can be compared to a sports event.

It might be old but….

It might be old and tired but it’s still cool and still a Porsche.

It has to look right – to feel right!

We got a little worried when we found this Grundig computer at our gate leaving Frankfurt Airport. Let’s hope it is not this kind of hardware that handles the airplane-traffic at one of the most busy airports in Europe.
Peter H… safely back home

From A to B

What a great way to move people between two buildings (a Hospice in Viborg (Denmark) and a Hotel). The cabin is so big that you can actually lie down inside it. I think it is a very clever idea and it doesn’t look bad in the nature.

Camarasaurus back in town!

Now you can get your own PLEO in our flagship store. PLEO is one of the world’s first robots which is cabable of showing feelings. It takes on a LIFEFORM of it’s own and when you scratch, talk and feed PLEO, it will react like a “real dinosaur”. Do you need a new pet?
