The layout you are looking at right now has been around for a couple of years. It has been serving us well – being the home for more than 800 blogposts and soon reader numer 500.000 will enter the blog. Besides the blog we have been busy building a online shop, a video site, a Flickr archive, a twitter profile and a Facebook fan page.

Now the time has come where we have outgrown our blog… it’s time for something new!

And this is where we thought of you – our dear blog reader. We need your help, your input and your ideas. Where do we turn to if we want to see the best of the best bloggers? Who has the coolest functions, a outstanding archive… that actually works. Or do you prefer the blog just the way it is today? – share your thoughts and comments (click the “Leave a Comment” link) and we promise you we will keep you involved throughout the redesign process.

We are just about to reintroduce the iconit Krenit bowls designed in 1953 by Herbert Krenchel. You may recognize the classic black, white and red colors. But we extended the color range to also include Lime, Purple and Turquoise. Now our question to you is:

Siren Elise Wilhelmsen, this year’s winner of the Time to Design Award

We are proud to announce this year’s winner; the 28-year-old Siren Elise Wilhelmsen from Norway.
She won with her design project Developing Time – Time Developing. The winning project is a development of her graduation project from the University of Arts Berlin.

Siren’s design project can best be described as a combination of a knitting machine and a cuckoo clock. The project form to visualise the otherwise invisible time factor, every half hour will be marked with a mask, every day with 48 masks and a calendar year ends with a about 2 meters long scarf.

The jury said; “The outcome of Developing time – Time Developing can either be interpreted in an artistic or design oriented realm of understanding, but the project is so different that it carries potential to show the world something truly innovative.”

The jury wishes to give Siren, time to design time and Siren will use her time at the Danish Art Workshops to bring the project closer to the user.
We look very much forward to follow the young talent and to showcase the innovative project in our Flagship store from the 25th. of November to the 9th. of December.

Light Tower is a sculpture. A sculpture made by aluminum. Well, actually Light Tower is a tea-light candlestick for five tea-lights.  Why the name Light Tower? It looks like a tower and it is a tower. A  tower full of lights. Light Tower is one of our newest products which will be in stores later this fall.

Light Tower is designed by Made by Makers. Made by Makers is a product design and concept agency from Aarhus in Denmark. Their designs are the result of a collaborative process, in which ideas are generated and processed by the entire design team.

The inspiration behind the Light Tower tea-light candlestick is the desire for variation, and the designers’ interpretation of the movement around the product’s centre. The result is a new type of tea-light candlestick that changes its expression according to how you arrange the candle holders, so that it can seem both compact and open.

Use it when it’s cold, dark and rainy outside, use it to keep warm, use it when you are alone or you have guests. Maybe with a cup of coffee and a blanket around you.

This year’s award ceremony will take place on Thursday 26^th of August at 2pm to 4pm at the Danish Art Workshops and you are invited. At the premises at Strandgade 27B, Director of the Danish Art Workshops Frederik Hardvendel will welcome you to this year’s award ceremony followed by a panel discussion ”Design Your Career”.

The panel will have a discussion about how you make it in the design business. With a panel consisting of one from the producer side, one from the design side and one from the consulting industry, the discussion provides different angles on how to make it as a designer. An issue which may have multiple answers, depending on which side of the industry you are from.

After the winner has been announced, the winner presents the winning project – we can’t wait!

Let’s face it. Cars don’t really belong in big cities any longer. Not much fun about a car that does 0-60 mph in 4.0 sec. when you are stuck in traffic most of the time! Either sell the car and buy a bike or get a car that is cute, fun and easy to park. Today we spotted this baby in the backyard of the Normann Copenhagen HQ.

The color is not on our top 10 list, but according to the owner (very nice old lady) it’s the original paint-job.

You may see or hear (it’s really loud!) the car in Copenhagen during the next couple of days – promoting the Zulu comedy festival.

Boys VS Men

The weekend is approaching fast and it is time to relax. At the Normann HQ we ended the day with homemade cookies and milk.

Chocolate Chip Cookies:

• 150 g butter
• 1 dl of sugar
• 1 dl of brown sugar
• 1 Egg
• 3 dl flour
• 2 tea spoons of vanilla
• 1 teaspoon of bake powder
• 3 dl of fillings, chopped chocolate and nuts, or whatever you feel like

Mix it all together and come small droppings on a baking sheet.

Bake in the oven, for 10 – 12 minutes at 180°

The lights are turned down low, nice ambience sounds are playing and on the walls, moving images are displayed turning the metro into a big cinema canvas putting the metro-passengers right in the middle.

The installation is called Urban Forest  and the idea is to distract people from their everyday stress in the usually cold concrete suroundings of the metro and create a calming and warm mood when travellling.

The installation is made by The Reframing Initiative, and is running until the 22th of August at Kgs Nytorv Metro, in Copehagen.  During the next 3 years the installation will travel to London, Paris, New York and Shanghai.

This year’s concept is based on the term FAQ, which refers to a list of frequently asked questions about a given topic and replies. We often ask the same questions and therefore are the response from the designer interesting for many.

Many found their way into the raw warehouse, despite the very rainy weather.

Dis[Play] by Lena Vogelius is a multifunctional furniture that is a reminiscent of an accordion as it can be pulled together. Dis[Play] is found to rethink traditional storage methods and the way we use them.

Design with care, Jessica Riedel is a piece of furniture created from an experiment between materials and form principles.

Ashes to Ashes, is a garden furniture made of material from Scandinavia and is made after the climate we live in, here in Scandinavia. Often is garden furniture made from exotic woods, which uses a lot of resources and isn’t the right material for the climate we have.

BOB Magazine, by Kristina Green Bonne, a work with concept development, Art Directing, layout, choice of  fonts, images, story selection and journalistic tone.

Under Construction is a series of sculptural and functional seating elements made with simple wire techniques, from the designer Trude Dale.
