Obama spotted in CPH… again!

Obama-graffiti

Graffiti is everyday viewing in cities like Copenhagen. But all of a sudden we have spotted a new kind of political Graffiti. American President Barack Obama under a bridge highway just outside Copenhagen. Is he running for president of Denmark? Is he trying to sell something or has his marketing people just gone a bit too far…literally. Very strange. It is the style of the British artist Banksy, but then again the artwork is not integrated with the surroundings like he would do. Please enlighten us if you know the story.

We spot it here, we spot it there, we spot it everywhere!

Yes, we admit it! We can spot a Normann Copenhagen product from a supersonic jet doing a fly-by. But sometimes we blink – and miss a spot! But thanks to our friends around the globe we still got that all seeing eye overlook. Yesterday our friends from Slovenia spotted our Cognac glasses in the  Slovenian edition of…

Denmark is getting darker!

There is nothing like a Danish summer evening where you can stay outside until midnight and still enjoy a bit of light. But there is also a dark side – the cold, dark and rainy winter-days. It’s dark when we get up in the morning and will be dark again before we come back from work.

norm-06-together

That is probably the reason why we Danes surround ourselves with “tons of light”. We put candlelight everywhere and light up our homes with plenty of lamps. This morning (when it was cold, wet and windy!!!) we took these pictures of the Norm 06 lamp in a corridor of a “Normann”.

The Norm 06 was designed in 2006 by Simon Karkov. It is perfect for hanging high since it look beautiful from below.

Subtle insult through art?

Taking a different route can make you spot things you wouldn’t normally see. I work at a very corporate (read boring) part of Amsterdam called Zuidas, where many of the big (bad) banks are located. At the headquarter of controversal bank ABN AMRO I saw these acorns in their office garden earlier this year. In Dutch the word acorn isn’t only fruit from an oak tree, it’s also is an insulting curse word for men (details here). Wonder if they put it there themselves or whether this is a subtle message from someone else?

Trouble sleeping?

Ingmar's bedside tableThe best ideas comes at night and for those of you who, like me suffers from insomnia every now and then, there might be some  comfort in knowing that one of the greatest film instuctors ever, probably did too. All of the furniture from Ingmar Bergman’s house will be sold at an auction at Bukowski’s later in september according to his last wish.  I was amazed to find this little nightstand amogst all the designer furniture and I imagen Ingmar waking up with his head full of ideas and with no time to find a piece of paper, he scribbeled his thoughts down directly on his bedsidetable!

View other things from Bergman’s house here!

We love great design

Normann Copenhagen is a way of living - a mindset. We like to think of it as putting on a pair of glasses and seeing the world in a different way. We love to challenge the conventional design rules.

On this blog we write about our design, the designers, and interesting things we spot around our hometown - Copenhagen.

Enjoy
